If you're new to the area and wondering whether you can access Harvard's extensive library resources, we have good news for you: Spouses and partners of Harvard affiliates can obtain a Special Borrower Card. HSSPA is here to help facilitate this process so that you can take advantage of the incredible academic and cultural resources available.

With this card, you’ll have access to Harvard libraries, museums, and more. Here's a quick guide to help you get started:

#### **How to Get a Harvard Library Card as a Spouse or Partner**

If you're the spouse or partner of a Harvard student, faculty, or staff member, you can get a *Special Borrower Card* to access Harvard's vast library system. Here's a simple guide to help you through the process:

### Why You Should Get a Library Card

\- Access to Resources Gain borrowing privileges at most Harvard libraries, opening up a treasure trove of books, journals, and academic materials.  
\- Cultural Benefits: Enjoy free entrance to Harvard museums and participate in educational programs.  
\- Convenience: Store Crimson Cash (Harvard’s “electronic money”) on your card for use on various Harvard services.

### Steps to Obtain a Library Card

1\. Check Your Eligibility: You must be a spouse or partner of a current Harvard student, faculty, or staff member. Be prepared to show proof of your relationship and residency.

2\. Gather Your Documents:  
\- A government-issued photo ID  
\- A copy of your partner’s Harvard ID  
\- Proof of your relationship if your last names differ (e.g., marriage certificate, joint lease)

3\. Visit the Library Privileges Office: Head to Widener Library, Room 130, with your documents and the $5 card fee.

4\. Complete the Application: Fill out the [application form](https://library.harvard.edu/visitor-access) at the office or online. Submit it along with your documents.

5\. Get Your Card: Once approved, have your photo taken, and pick up your card at the ID Services Office.
